Enugu State Governor Highlights Two Years of Transformative Progress in State Address
Enugu, Nigeria – Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah delivered a compelling address at Okpara Square, outlining the significant strides made by his administration in just two years. Speaking to the people of Enugu State, Mbah underscored his vision for a prosperous region grounded in access, equity, and excellence, detailing a series of ambitious projects that have reshaped the state’s infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, and economy.
In a post on X, Mbah revealed that his administration has constructed over 800 kilometres of roads, linking farms, markets, industries, schools, and hospitals. This infrastructure boom includes five ultra-modern transport terminals at Holy Ghost (Terminals 1 and 2), Gariki, Abakpa, and Nsukka, all set for commissioning. These developments aim to enhance connectivity and boost economic activity across the state.
Education has been a cornerstone of Mbah’s agenda, with an unprecedented 33 percent of the state’s budget allocated to the sector, surpassing global benchmarks. The governor highlighted the construction of 260 Smart Green Schools, equipped with digital whiteboards, science labs, and solar-powered learning spaces. These schools are designed to provide world-class education and prepare Enugu’s youth for a competitive future.
Healthcare is another priority, with 260 fully equipped Primary Healthcare Centres being built across every ward. Mbah emphasised that these centres will ensure no mother faces the risks of childbirth due to distance or inadequate facilities, marking a significant step towards universal healthcare access.
On security, Mbah’s administration has made notable progress. A state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre has been established, supported by 150 AI-enabled patrol vehicles. These measures have led to a decline in violent crime, restoring confidence among residents to travel, trade, and live safely.
Economically, Enugu has seen remarkable growth. Mbah reported a 600 percent increase in internally generated revenue, achieved through the revival of dormant assets and strategic investment drives. The state has also improved its ease of doing business, attracting new opportunities. Agricultural initiatives include a 300,000-hectare Landbank and 200-hectare Farm Estates in every ward, aimed at boosting agro-industrial production for both local consumption and export.
Transport reforms are underway, with 200 CNG buses and 2,000 city taxis being introduced, alongside ticketing technology to reduce costs for families. The completion of the Enugu International Conference Centre and the launch of Enugu Air signal the state’s ambition to position itself as a global player.
Mbah expressed gratitude for the support of Enugu’s leaders and residents, describing the achievements as “only the beginning.” He called for continued collaboration to build on this foundation and deliver even greater progress.
The governor’s address has sparked widespread discussion, with 35 posts on X reflecting public reactions to his administration’s accomplishments. As Enugu continues its transformation, Mbah’s leadership is setting a bold precedent for governance in Nigeria.
