Allegations of Coercion and Assault by Tinubu’s Son Spark Outrage
Abuja, Nigeria – 2 May 2025 – Serious allegations of coercion, violence, and intimidation levelled against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have ignited widespread condemnation and calls for accountability. The accusations, made by Comrade Atiku Isah, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), claim that Seyi Tinubu orchestrated physical assault, abduction, and inducement in an attempt to secure political loyalty for his father.
In a strongly worded statement from the Atiku Media Office, signed by Paul Ibe, the allegations were described as “deeply alarming” and a direct assault on democratic norms and civil liberties. The statement underscored the gravity of such accusations being directed at a member of the President’s family, warning that Nigeria is a democratic republic, not a “private estate” to be controlled by one family.
According to the claims, Seyi Tinubu’s actions targeted NANS, a prominent civil society group, through threats, bribes, and brute force. The statement also raised concerns about the alleged influence Seyi wields over top security officials, suggesting a dangerous compromise of state institutions. “That such grave accusations are being levelled against a member of the first family is both disturbing and dangerous,” the statement read.
The Atiku Media Office demanded an independent investigation into the allegations, particularly given the apparent complicity of agencies meant to protect citizens. It also issued a stark warning: “Nothing must happen to this young man. Any harm to him will not go unnoticed or unchallenged.”
Attempts to link former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to the scandal were dismissed as “baseless, malicious, and desperate.” The statement clarified that Abubakar’s recent meeting with Comrade Isah focused solely on education reform and student welfare, including discussions about institutions he founded, such as the American University of Nigeria and AUN Academy.
The statement called on Nigerians to condemn the actions of the President’s family, particularly their “rabid drive to consolidate political power through manipulation and fear.” It reiterated that the presidency is a public trust, not a private inheritance, and urged citizens to demand truth, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.
Atiku Abubakar, the statement affirmed, remains committed to democracy, the rule of law, and education as a cornerstone of national progress, undeterred by “false narratives or cowardly intimidation.”
