JAMB Unveils Top Performers in 2025 UTME, Anambra Candidate Leads with 375

Abuja, 8 July 2025 – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the list of top performers in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), showcasing outstanding academic talent across Nigeria. Okeke Chinedu Christian from Anambra State secured the highest score of 375 out of 400, claiming the top spot. Among the top ten highest-scoring candidates, Olawepo Tunwise Gertrude from Kwara State excelled with a remarkable score of 373, marking a significant achievement for female representation in this competitive field.

The results were announced at the 2025 JAMB Policy Meeting in Abuja, where Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede commended the candidates for their academic excellence. However, concerns have emerged regarding Okeke Chinedu’s result, with JAMB suspecting irregularities due to discrepancies in his academic history. Investigations revealed that Chinedu had previously secured admission to study Medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) four years ago, yet his current UTME application lists Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as his preferred course. JAMB is investigating further and has contacted the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to ensure Chinedu is not licensed to practise medicine under questionable circumstances.

Other notable performers include Ayuba Simon-Peter John from Gombe State, who scored 374 and chose Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) for Mechanical Engineering, and Jimoh Abdulmalik Olayinka, also from Kwara State, who scored 373 and selected UNILAG for Mechanical Engineering. Olawepo Tunwise Gertrude’s score of 373 places her among the elite, highlighting her dedication and academic prowess. Additional top scorers include Chukwuemeka Azoyenime from Delta, Emmanuel Oyebode from Ogun, and Cecil Omigie from Edo, all scoring 372, alongside Roberts Damiete, Ononugbo Chigozirim, Afinotan Leslie, and Azoyenime Samuel, each with 373.

Gertrude’s achievement as a top performer from Kwara State is a point of pride, underscoring the potential for female candidates to excel in the rigorous UTME. Her success fuels optimism for greater female participation in STEM disciplines, which are popular among this year’s top scorers, particularly Mechanical Engineering.

The 2025 UTME results reflect the candidates’ commitment to intensive preparation and their aspirations to drive Nigeria’s technological and industrial progress. Prestigious institutions like UNILAG and ABUAD remain top destinations for these high achievers.

JAMB reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process, with Professor Oloyede emphasising efforts to combat malpractice. The board also confirmed that the minimum age for tertiary institution admission remains 16, enforced through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), accommodating candidates turning 16 by 31 August 2025.
