Nigeria Welcomes Malawi’s Plan for Diplomatic Mission in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria – 30 June 2025

Nigeria and Malawi are set to strengthen their bilateral ties following a courtesy visit by Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Hon. Nancy Tembo, MP, to the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. The visit, warmly received by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, underscored the cordial relations between the two nations and marked a significant step towards enhanced diplomatic engagement.

During the meeting, Minister Tembo expressed the Malawian Government’s keen interest in establishing a resident diplomatic mission in Abuja. This development is expected to usher in a new era of cooperation, facilitating closer country-to-country interactions and fostering opportunities for collaboration in trade, culture, and regional initiatives.

In a statement shared on social media, the Nigerian Minister highlighted the importance of the visit, noting, “Nigeria is highly delighted by the fact that the Malawian Government is desirous of establishing a resident diplomatic mission in Abuja.” She added that the move would herald “a new era in our country-to-country engagements.”

The establishment of a Malawian diplomatic mission in Nigeria’s capital is anticipated to deepen the already warm bilateral relationship, which has been built on mutual respect and shared interests within the African continent. Both nations are expected to benefit from increased diplomatic presence, paving the way for stronger economic and political ties.
